Leadership
Nobody leads beyond the point to which they know themselves.
Most leadership training teaches what to do when everything is going well. The trouble is that leadership is decided under the tight deadline, in the bad news, in the conversation that has been put off for three weeks.
Under pressure, it is very hard for anyone to apply a model, and what emerges is a pattern being applied. A leader who avoids conflict, as I do, will avoid it with a better justification; one who controls will control more politely. A person's leadership style is their personality with a budget.
So the work starts on the inside and only then moves to the tools. It is slower in the first month and much faster in the first year.

- Know your pattern under pressure
Not the one you wrote in your performance review.
- Map the team
Nine patterns in one room explain nearly every friction in it.
- Have the postponed conversation
There is always one. It is almost always the same one, for months.
- Install habits, not campaigns
Culture is what survives once the enthusiasm runs out.
What happens to your leadership when the pressure rises?
It is precisely in those moments that automatic patterns become most visible. If you'd like to understand yours better and work on how they show up in your leadership, we can start there.
