A Course in Miracles and Psychotherapy

Some suffering calls for psychological support. And some questions belong to another plane. Knowing how to tell them apart is also part of the path.

A Course in Miracles devotes one of its supplements to psychotherapy and looks at it from a very particular perspective: the deepest change does not happen only when we change what we think about our story, but when we begin to question the identity from which we are interpreting it.

Psychotherapy can work with suffering, experience, relationships, behaviour, emotions, personal history and many other aspects of psychological life. ACIM introduces a question of a different order: what is the identity of the one who believes they are living through all of this?

This does not set the Course against psychotherapy, nor does it seek to replace the work of psychologists, psychotherapists, psychiatrists or other health professionals. They are different planes which, in certain circumstances, can coexist.

In the work I develop from A Course in Miracles, the focus is not on diagnosing or treating a psychological condition. It is on observing the interpretations, judgements, fears and beliefs through which we build our experience, and on the possibility of choosing another way of looking.

This is where the Course introduces a radical question: what if the problem lies not only in what happened, but in how the mind is choosing to see it? That shift in perception is the specific territory of A Course in Miracles.

Where to begin
  1. Know where you are

This work assumes some road already travelled.

  2. Name what resists

The thing that improved a great deal and never resolved.

  3. Change the question

From «why did this happen to me» to «what am I defending with this».

  4. Go slowly

There is no prize for arriving first. ACIM says that only infinite patience produces immediate results.

Would you like to explore this perspective further?

If this way of looking at experience interests you, you can go deeper into it through A Course in Miracles and the study and practice spaces I lead.
